Touch typing lessons: learn every key, a pair at a time
Seventeen short lessons take you from the home row to every letter, then capitals and real sentences. Each one adds a pair of keys, starts at once, and brings back the keys you missed. Your progress stays in this browser.

How touch typing works
Rest your left fingers on A, S, D and F and your right fingers on J, K, L and semicolon: that is the home row. Most keyboards have a small bump on F and J so you can find it without looking. Each finger reaches up and down from its home key to the keys in its colour, and your thumbs share the space bar.
Look at the screen, not your hands. It feels slow at first; accuracy comes before speed, and speed follows once your fingers know where the keys are.
How these lessons work
Each lesson adds two keys to the ones you already know. The text mixes short groups of letters, weighted to the new keys, with real words that use only keys you have learned. Keys you miss come back more often in your next exercise.
A lesson counts as done at 95% accuracy or more, at any speed: that is our own guide, not a standard. When you know every letter, take the typing test to measure your words per minute, and see how to type faster for what to practice next. For practice on paper, print the typing practice sheets.
