APM test: how many actions per minute?

Click and press keys inside the box. Every click and every key press is one action, and the timer starts with your first one.

What APM means

APM, actions per minute, counts every command you give. In real-time strategy and MOBA games each click and each key press is an action, and this test counts the same way: any mouse button or key pressed inside the box is one action, and the result is your actions divided by the minutes of the run.

A 60-second run with 150 clicks and 90 key presses is 240 actions, so 240 APM. The same 240 actions over 30 seconds would be 480 APM.

For scale, Wikipedia's article on APM puts professional StarCraft players in South Korea at about 250 to 350 APM on average over a match, with beginners typically below 50. A match has quiet stretches as well as fights, so a short run in this box usually reads higher than the same player's match average.

Raw APM and useful APM

A high APM can come from spamming one key. Players tell raw APM apart from effective APM, which leaves out repeated, wasted actions. The result here also shows how many different keys and buttons you used, and your APM in every 10 seconds, so you can see whether a fast start faded.

Held keys repeat on their own, so a held key counts once. Shortcuts with Ctrl, Alt or Cmd are ignored, which keeps the browser usable during a run.

How to raise your APM

Warm up with a short run, keep your hand loose, and use hotkeys instead of clicking through menus. Practice the key sequences your game really uses, such as a build order or an ability combo, at a pace you can hold without mistakes, then speed up. Compare runs at the same time setting: a 30-second sprint usually scores higher than a two-minute run.

For one kind of input at a time, try the keyboard speed test (keys only), the CPS test (clicks only) or the spacebar counter.
